$1,250,000 was granted to Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity to rebuild 10 homes in Refugio County destroyed during Hurricane Harvey. A report from the South Texas Economic Development Center stated that Refugio County was the second most devastated county in home damages with 70% of homes (approximately 2,600) damaged after Harvey. Refugio did not have a Habitat affiliate prior to the storm but given the scale of the damage, Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity received special permission to work in the county in March 2018.
Status: The project commenced in January 2020 and was completed on schedule, with funds remaining. The remaining funds were used to repair an additional four homes. These repairs were completed in April 2021.
By February 2021, 100% of funds had been disbursed.
