$1,250,000 was granted to Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity to rebuild 10 homes in Refugio County destroyed during Hurricane Harvey. A report from the South Texas Economic Development Center stated that Refugio County was the second most devastated county in home damages with 70% of homes (approximately 2,600) damaged after Harvey. Refugio did not have a Habitat affiliate prior to the storm but given the scale of the damage, Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity received special permission to work in the county in March 2018.
Status: The project commenced in January 2020 and is scheduled to be completed in December 2020.
As of September 2020, 61% of funds have been disbursed.
