$300,000 was granted to Houston Community College Foundation, in partnership with the Rebuild Texas Fund, to establish the Qatar Harvey Fund Scholarship program for Houston Community College students impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As an open-admission, two-year public institution with a high population of non-traditional students, the HCC student body was particularly vulnerable to the economic hardships that came in the wake up Hurricane Harvey. Qatar Harvey Fund scholarships will assist students who withdrew from HCC as a result of the storm and allow them to re-enroll and continue their studies. Scholarships of up to $1,250 will be awarded to a minimum of 115 eligible students for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.
Status: Project was completed July 2020 with 167 scholarships awarded.
100% of funds have been disbursed
“We are grateful to the Qatar Harvey Fund and the Rebuild Texas Fund . . . We can now provide financial assistance to students who had to put their HCC education on hold, or step away from classes altogether, as a result of Harvey.”
Cesar Maldonado, HCC Chancellor
